South African artist Albert Solomon is well-known for his landscapes and this is a prime example of his delicate and precise style. His seemingly simple choice of subject matter - a few rocks, some vegetation and an overcast sky - belies the intensive work he has put into every blade of grass, every curve of rock and billowing cloud. This piece is packed with the kind of fine detail usually reserved for far bigger works, making this one all the more remarkable for its size.
